Luke 4:17
The Bible in Luke Chapter 4 Verse 17 says:
And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written,
Interpretation of Luke Chapter 4 Verse 17
In Luke 4:17, Jesus is handed the book of the prophet Isaiah and He opens it to a specific passage. Jesus then reads the passage, which is Isaiah 61:1-2. In this passage, Jesus declares that He has been anointed by God to bring good news to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and to give sight to the blind. This passage is the beginning of Jesus’s public ministry and it conveys His mission to the people of Israel. Jesus’s words show that He is the promised Messiah, sent to bring salvation to the world.
