John Chapter 12 Verse 5

John 12:5

The Bible in John Chapter 12 Verse 5 says:

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?

Interpretation of John Chapter 12 Verse 5

Mary had taken a pound of very expensive ointment of spikenard and anointed Jesus’ feet with it. Judas Iscariot, the treasurer of the group, immediately objected to the waste of such a costly item, asking why it was not sold for three hundred shillings and the money given to the poor. Jesus, however, defended Mary’s actions, saying that the poor were always with them and that the ointment was being used to prepare for His burial. He also said that Mary had done a beautiful thing and that it would be remembered wherever the gospel was preached.
