Hebrews Chapter 9 Verse 17

Hebrews 9:17

The Bible in Hebrews Chapter 9 Verse 17 says:

For a testament is of force where there hath been death: for it doth never avail while he that made it liveth.

Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 9 Verse 17

In Hebrews 9:17, the author is discussing the importance of a testament. A testament is only valid and effective when the person making the testament has died. As long as the person making the testament is alive, the testament cannot be enforced or put into action. The author emphasizes that death is necessary for a testament to take effect. This is a reference to the death of Jesus Christ, who made a testament through His death on the cross. The testament, or covenant, that Jesus made was for the forgiveness of sins and the eternal salvation of all who believe in Him.
