Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 8 Verse 4
Hebrews 8:4 is speaking of Jesus and his role as a priest. The writer is saying that if Jesus were on earth he could not be a priest, because on earth, priests are appointed and they offer gifts according to the Law. Jesus, however, was appointed by God, and his role as a priest is much higher than any earthly priest. He is the perfect priest, and his offering is far greater than any earthly offering. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus offers a perfect, once-for-all sacrifice that provides eternal salvation to all who accept it.
