then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 10 Verse 9

Hebrews 10:9 is part of a passage that speaks of the superiority of Christ’s one-time sacrifice over the repetitive sacrifices of the Old Testament Law. In this verse, the author is quoting from Psalm 40, in which God speaks of his plan to send a Savior to do His will. He states that in order to fulfill His will, the old system of sacrifices must be done away with, and replaced with the one perfect sacrifice of Christ. This sacrifice, accomplished through His death and resurrection, is the ultimate expression of God’s love and mercy. Through it, He has established an eternal covenant of salvation and grace for those who believe.
