For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only [there is] one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way.

Interpretation of 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2 Verse 7

In 2 Thessalonians 2:7, Paul is warning the Thessalonians about the mystery of lawlessness that is already at work in the world. He explains that the only thing restraining it for the time being is a single entity, until this restraining force is taken out of the way. Paul is referring to the Holy Spirit, who is God’s presence in the world and the one who is restraining evil and keeping it in check. When the time comes, the Holy Spirit will be removed and the mystery of lawlessness will be unleashed. Therefore, the Thessalonians should remain steadfast in their faith and be ready for when the time comes.
