Interpretation of 2 Peter Chapter 2 Verse 16
In 2 Peter 2:16, Peter is referencing a story from the Old Testament in which God sent a donkey to speak to the prophet Balaam and stay his madness. Balaam was rebuked for his own transgression, in that he was seeking to use his prophetic powers to curse the Israelites even though God had commanded him not to. The donkey spoke with a man’s voice, demonstrating the power of God to humble even the most powerful of men. The story serves as an example of the consequences of disobedience to God’s commands and the power of God to work through even the most unlikely of vessels.
