by so much also hath Jesus become the surety of a better covenant.
Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 7 Verse 22
Hebrews 7:22 explains how Jesus has become the surety of a better covenant. The writer of Hebrews encourages the readers to look at Jesus who is from the order of Melchizedek, which is a superior order to the Levitical priesthood. He explains how Jesus is a priest forever, and how his priesthood is unchangeable. The writer goes on to explain how Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been established on better promises. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, God has brought a better covenant, which has replaced the Old Covenant that was established through Moses. This new covenant promises a better relationship between God and his people, and a better hope of salvation. Jesus’ death has made this new covenant possible, and it is through His sacrifice that we can receive the fullness of God’s grace and mercy.
