Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 7 Verse 8
Hebrews 7:8 is part of a passage where the author is comparing Melchizedek, a mysterious figure in the Old Testament, to Jesus Christ. The author is stating that Melchizedek, a priest of the Most High God, was greater than the Levitical priesthood. The author is pointing out that even though ordinary priests die, they still receive tithes. In contrast, Melchizedek lives forever and is worthy of an even greater honor. The author is ultimately making the point that Jesus is a priest of an even greater order than Melchizedek, and thus is worthy of even greater honor and reverence.
