Hebrews 5:6
The Bible in Hebrews Chapter 5 Verse 6 says:
as he saith also in another [place,] Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek.
Interpretation of Hebrews Chapter 5 Verse 6
Hebrews 5:6 is a reference to Psalm 110:4, where God promises to make Jesus a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Melchizedek was a priest-king of Salem mentioned in Genesis 14:18-20 who blessed Abraham and received tithes from him. Melchizedek is viewed as an enigmatic figure in the Bible and is often looked to as a type of Christ because of his mysterious yet significant presence in the Old Testament. Jesus, as the ultimate High Priest, is compared to Melchizedek in Hebrews 5:6 as an example of a priest who holds a unique and eternal priesthood. In this way, Jesus is shown to be superior to Aaron, the first high priest of Israel, and to the Levitical priesthood which was limited in time and scope.
