Against an elder receive not an accusation, except at [the mouth of] two or three witnesses.

Interpretation of 1 Timothy Chapter 5 Verse 19

This verse from 1 Timothy 5:19 is telling us to not receive accusations against an elder in the Church unless it is supported by two or three witnesses. This teaches us that we must be careful when it comes to accusing someone of a wrongdoing, especially if they are an elder in the Church. We must be sure of the facts, and the only way to do that is to have at least two or three witnesses who can confirm that the accusation is true. This is a reminder to us to be sure of the truth before making accusations, and to not take any one person’s word for it.
