Not that I seek for the gift; but I seek for the fruit that increaseth to your account.
Interpretation of Philippians Chapter 4 Verse 17
In Philippians 4:17, the Apostle Paul is telling the believers in Philippi that he does not seek a gift from them, but rather he is seeking the fruit of their labor that will be credited to their spiritual account. Paul is stressing the importance of good works so that believers will receive the rewards of their labor in eternity. He is also encouraging them to be generous in their giving, for it is through their good works that God will be glorified. Paul is teaching that the greatest reward is not the material gifts, but the spiritual reward of knowing that their service has made a difference in the lives of others.
