2 Corinthians 5:5
The Bible in 2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 5 says:
Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
Interpretation of 2 Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 5
In 2 Corinthians 5:5, Paul emphasizes that it is God who is responsible for the transformation of believers into new creatures. He refers to the Holy Spirit as the “earnest” or down payment of this transformation. This means that the Holy Spirit is a guarantee of the complete transformation that will take place in believers in due time. The earnest of the Spirit is a sign of the future inheritance and the assurance of God’s power to bring about that transformation. Paul is reminding believers that God is the one who is responsible for their transformation and the Holy Spirit is a guarantee of that transformation.
