knowing this, that our old man was crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;
Interpretation of Romans Chapter 6 Verse 6
Romans 6:6 is part of a larger passage which speaks to the believers of the power of grace and salvation they have been given in Jesus Christ. In this verse, Paul is reminding the church that through Jesus’ death on the cross, their “old man” was crucified with Him. This means that the power of sin that once held them in bondage has been broken and they are now free from its grasp. Paul is encouraging them to no longer be in bondage to sin, but instead to live in newness of life. This is the power of salvation and freedom that Jesus has given them.
